This album has been grossly overlooked and is perhaps Costello's best album of the mid Nineties. The songwriting is almost as good as some of the songs on Imperial Bedroom. The stand out tracks are the title track which was first recorded by June Tabor (a fine version), Poor Fractured Atlas with a wonderful piano part, Complicated Shadows and I Want to Vanish/5(55).
  2. Tam says:

Elvis Costello's final album for Warner Bros. might have been even more widely ignored had he and the Attractions not gone on tour to support it. The result led to a final split, but All This Useless Beauty still ended up doing little business/5(57).
  8. Arashijas says:
Following his second covers album, Kojak Variety, Elvis Costello set out to assemble a collection of songs he had written for other artists but never recorded himself -- sort of a reverse covers album. As it turned out, that idea was only used as a launching pad -- the resulting album, All This Useless Beauty, is a mixture of nine old and three new songs.
